This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This weeks top ten is top ten books that made you cry.
This post contains *spoliers* for Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, The Green Mile by Stephen King and The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
1) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix-JK Rowling. *Spoiler alert* When JK Rowling killer off Sirus Black it really broke my heart. He was in my opinion one of the hottest fictional characters and at the end of the book I really mourned the character. Not only because Harry had yet again lost another person close to him but we had all lost the character from the future books.
2)My Sister’s Keeper – Jodi Picoult. It is the story of a 13 year old girl who sues her parents for medical emancipation as they expected her to donate a kidney to her sister who is dying from leukemia
3)PS I Love You – Cecelia Ahern. I don’t actually know anyone that has read this book and not cried. A wife losses her husband to cancer and he know that she won’t be able to cope without him. So her writes her a series of letters that are delivered at certain points of the next year to help her cope with his death and learn to liver her life again.
4) A Child called It – Dave Pelzer. This tells the true story of the abuse Dave suffered from his mother as a child. At parts I had to put down the book as I couldn’t read through my tears.
5)The Boy in the Striped Pajamas – John Boyne.*Spoiler alert* When I released that those parents where never going to see their child again and what would of happened to him in the concentration camp, I could do nothing but cry.
6) The Color Purple – Alice Walker. Right from the first couple of pages I was crying it is a heartbreaking story.
7)The Green Mile – Stephen King. *Spoiler alert* I cried along with the guards when John Coffey, was executed. Especially as he chose to die instead of running away, which he was giving the option to.
8)The Diary of a Young Girl – Anne Frank. *Spoiler alert* No matter how many times I read this book I always cry at the same bit when the Gestapo soldiers are banging on the door and drag a screaming Anne away from her mother because of the subject matter I just think this book touches a raw emotion within all of us.
9)Restored Hope – Brenda Youngerman. This book had me crying throughout it. At one point I was on the train and everyone was staring at me as the tears where running down my cheeks as I was reading.
10) The Lovely Bones – Alice Sebold. I cried throughout this book even at the beginning of the novel when you realise that 14-year-old Susie Salmon is already in Heaven. There is just tragedy throughout this novel that made me cry.
