I woke up this morning feeling like a child on Christmas Eve, because tomorrow is the start of the Edinburgh International Book Festival. I have the full 17 days off work and plan on going through nearly every day.
One of the things I love most about the festival is the atmosphere, I can not encourage people enough to just go along and sit in the gardens and soak up the wonderful atmosphere. You don’t have to buy a ticket for an event to enjoy the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
Another personal highlight of the festival every year, is that it is a chance to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. I love being able to put a face to someone who you have been talking to over twitter.
The Four events I am looking forward to the most:
- Kevin Barry – There are no words to describe how amazing his latest short story collection is. I am looking forward to hearing from the man himself.
- Colm Toibin – I just love everything this man has written.
- Hilary Mantel – Wolf Hall remains one of my favourite historical books of all time and Bring up the Bodies was a really good follow-up novel.
- Ian Rankin – His Rebus novels are books I have read over and over again. I am so looking forward to hearing Rankin’s favourite Rebus moments.
Of course I am going to more than just four events and I am sure that some of the events I have not mentioned will become some of my favourite events of Edinburgh International Book Festival 2012.
So If you see me wandering around Edinburgh International Book Festival, don’t be shy come and say hello.
